In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that rostered Sunday overtime be included in annual leave pay at Saint Joseph's (Private) Hospital from 1989/90. It recommended postponing the separate claim for a pension scheme for part-time staff until wider developments and 1990 funding were clarified. The recommendation was signed on 6 July 1989. The Federated Workers' Union Of Ireland brought the claims on behalf of approximately 32 domestic staff. The hospital opposed them, citing financial constraints including capped VHI payments and rising costs. The Court treated the pension and holiday-pay claims separately in its recommendations.
