In 1989, the Labour Court found that a worker had not been fairly treated when dismissed by Fordamery Enterprises Limited and recommended that the company pay him £1,000 and provide a reference. The recommendation was signed on 30 May 1989. The worker was dismissed after six missing blouses were found under his bench. He denied knowing about them and argued someone else could have put them there. The company said they had been deliberately hidden and that the manager had grounds to dismiss him. The worker had earlier received £156 from the Employment Appeals Tribunal under minimum notice legislation.
