In 1989, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union’s claim against Pretty Polly (Killarney) Limited, also listed as Adelphi Carlton Limited, for a production-related bonus scheme for seven maintenance craftsmen. The recommendation was signed on 28 April 1989. The union argued that the craftsmen’s flexibility and work across the plant supported a bonus scheme. Pretty Polly said their work was difficult to measure directly and that existing efficiency and proficiency awards exceeded bonus levels earned by other staff. The Court considered the submissions and the history of the craftsmen’s pay, and found no grounds to support the union’s claim.
