Labour Court sends Securicor ATM servicing pay dispute back to talks

The Labour Court recommended that Securicor (Ireland) Limited accept that patrolmen’s automatic telling machine servicing duties were new and not specifically covered by the 1983 agreement. It also recommended that the company and the Irish Transport And General Workers Union resume direct negotiations towards an equitable settlement. The recommendation was signed on 17 April 1989. The union had sought an additional £20 per week for 18 patrolmen, arguing that the work required new skills and duties. Securicor said servicing was covered by the agreement and that a further cost-increasing claim would conflict with its wage agreement. The Court cited uncertainty about the future of the duties.
