Labour Court backs Roma Foods pay offer and recommends pension talks

The Labour Court recommended that Federated Workers’ Union of Ireland accept Roma Foods Limited’s pay offer under the Programme for National Recovery. It did not recommend conceding the union’s bonus claim, but recommended direct negotiations on a suitable pension scheme. The recommendation was signed on 20 January 1989. The Court said pension contributions need not begin until the Programme ended, subject to provisions for workers who might qualify earlier. The union had sought a pay increase, a bonus scheme and a pension scheme under the 28th wage round.
