The Labour Court recommended five weeks’ pay per year of service, in addition to statutory entitlements, for two workers being made redundant by the National Catering Organisation. The recommendation was signed on 28 October 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union sought the package, relying on redundancy terms previously applied by catering contractors at the Baxter Health Care premises in Swinford. The organisation said its agreement made no provision for redundancy and that settlements varied. Citing established precedents involving other contractors at the site, the Court recommended the five-week package for the two workers.
