In 1988, the Labour Court did not recommend that Irish Food Ingredients Limited recognise Manufacturing Science And Finance, which sought negotiating rights for three laboratory employees. The recommendation was signed on 29 July 1988. The Court said Irish Food Ingredients had already agreed to give another union sole negotiating rights and should have informed employees of their obligations under that agreement when they were recruited. In the circumstances, it did not consider it appropriate to recommend breaking the agreement and recognising another union.
