Labour Court recommends Irish Rail restore signalmen's certificates after six months

The Labour Court recommended that two Irish Rail signalmen have their signal certificates restored and return to their jobs after six months, subject to good behaviour as depot persons. The recommendation, concerning a dispute raised by the National Busworkers' Union, was signed on 29 July 1988. The Court considered the company's disciplinary action not unreasonable given the seriousness of the offence. It said the initial penalty may have been influenced in part by an additional allegation that was later withdrawn. The Court found no fault with Irish Rail's grievance procedure.
