In 1988, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport And General Workers Union's claim for compensation for two Eastern Health Board workers after their overtime was stopped. The recommendation was signed on 7 July 1988. The workers were a porter and a registered psychiatric nurse at St. Brendan's Hospital. The union argued that overtime had become an integral part of their earnings and sought compensation. The Board cited funding constraints and said it could not consider compensation while directing funds to patient services and preserving employment.
