In 1988, the Labour Court recommended acceptance of Goodalls Of Ireland Limited's wage offer for about 40 workers, but did not recommend the union's claims for higher service pay, improved leave or an additional bonus. The recommendation was signed on 3 June 1988. Irish Transport And General Workers' Union had sought a pay increase and improvements to service pay, leave and production bonuses. Goodalls said its offer reflected the Programme for National Recovery. The workforce had rejected the offer, particularly over a clause on cost-increasing claims during the agreement.
