Labour Court cannot recommend regrading school secretaries

In 1988, the Labour Court said it could not recommend regrading any or all of the school secretaries covered by a claim from the Local Government And Public Services Union. The recommendation was signed on 21 March 1988. The union sought grade 3 for all primary and secondary school secretaries, with provision for higher duties. The Departments Of Education And Finance said secretaries were correctly graded at grade 2, with grade 3 applying in some cases because of workload or previously agreed higher duties. The Court said it could not determine appropriate grades without a detailed job evaluation.
