In 1988, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Printers Union’s claim for a house rate at Wilkes Cerdac Limited. The recommendation was signed on 21 March 1988. The union argued a house rate of 4% plus £2.60 had not been absorbed into a 1986 agreement on a new photo-composition rate. Wilkes Cerdac Limited said the agreement absorbed all pay above the basic rate except machine money and service pay. The Court said the arrangements made to implement the agreement should stand.
