The Labour Court recommended that Bus Eireann compensate six drivers at half their annual loss of earnings after school bus duty boards were reorganised near Macroom. The recommendation was signed on 17 December 1987. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union said the changes removed the drivers’ opportunity to earn overtime and that compensation had been paid in similar cases. Bus Eireann argued that declining passenger numbers led to the changes, which complied with agreements and were needed to run services economically. The Court found that the changes involved some reorganisation and recommended compensation at half the annual loss claimed for each driver.
