The Labour Court recommended that Plascon Limited pay a worker a further £560 and one week's pay to make up a shortfall in her notice. The recommendation was signed on 6 April 1987. The worker, who had held office and sales roles including purchasing production controller, was made redundant in July 1986 and received a statutory lump sum of £560. The Federated Workers' Union of Ireland (Irish Women Workers' Branch) argued that she had been unfairly selected and had not received proper notice. Plascon Limited said there was a redundancy situation and that she had received her statutory entitlement. The Court recommended the additional payment after considering the circumstances of her dismissal.
