In 1987, the Labour Court recommended machine-rate increases for 17 operators at Wilkes Cerdac Ltd following a claim by the Irish Print Union. The recommendation was signed on 9 April 1987. The union sought increases of 24% for the Harris press and 18% for the Ofcon press. Wilkes Cerdac offered lower rates, subject to absorbing payments already above basic rates. The Court recommended a 17% increase on the basic rate for the Harris CF50 Press and an 8% increase for the Ofcon-204 DNP machine, both subject to absorption by payments over basic rates.
