The Labour Court recommended a 5% pay increase for Aer Lingus workers from the expiry of their previous agreement, lasting 15 months. It did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union's claims for a shorter working week or two extra days of annual leave. The recommendation was signed on 9 March 1987. Aer Lingus argued that the claims would add substantial costs as the airline faced worsening results and a cost-reduction programme.
