In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Guinness Staff Association's claim against Arthur Guinness Son and Co (Dublin) Limited for restoration of internal pay differentials. The recommendation was signed on 11 February. The association argued that salaried staff had missed increases granted to other worker groups. The company said the groups had separate pay structures and estimated the claim would cost more than £700,000 a year. The Court found the claim did not warrant a general salary increase.
