In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Castleknock College pay each claimant £150 for loss of Sunday work. The recommendation was signed on 10 February 1987. A change to weekend boarding arrangements meant fewer pupils were at the College on Sunday evenings, reducing work for night cleaning staff. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (Itgwu), representing the workers, sought compensation for the lost earnings. The Court cited both the significant earnings loss and the College's financial circumstances in recommending the payment.
