In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Plastic Packaging Limited pay six printers the weekly attendance bonus after a 38.50-hour week, with the Irish Print Union undertaking to provide full shift cover on a 40-hour basis. The recommendation was signed on 13 February 1987. The dispute followed a reduction in the printers' basic working week. The company had continued to require 40 hours' work to qualify for the bonus. The union said it accepted the need for a 40-hour week to provide full shift cover, and the Court recommended conceding its claim to pay the bonus in respect of 38.50 hours on that basis.
