Labour Court recommends against three cleaners’ dismissal claim at Chapelizod National School

In 1987, the Labour Court found that the dismissal of three cleaners at Chapelizod National School was not unfair and did not recommend in favour of their claim. The recommendation was signed on 28 January 1987. The WRC page names Mrs. Marie Walsh as a party; the recommendation itself refers to the workers as a group. The dispute followed the Board of Management’s proposal to move the cleaners’ hours from 3 p.m.–4 p.m. to 7 p.m.–8 p.m., so a Board member could supervise their work. The workers said the hours did not suit them and argued that cleaning supplies had been removed and a broken polishing machine was not repaired. The Board said teachers and parents had complained about the school’s condition and that the changed hours would allow supervision.
