In 1987, the Labour Court recommended deferring 22 Cara Cheshire Home workers' claims for a travel allowance, a wage-round lump sum and night-rate calculations until April, when the Home's financial position could be reviewed. The recommendation was signed on 29 January 1987. Existing travel-allowance arrangements were to continue in the meantime. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union argued that the workers had established pay parity with similar Eastern Health Board employees. Cara Cheshire Home disputed the parity and cited financial difficulties. The Court recognised the claimed parity but recommended that all three claims be considered in April in light of the Home's finances.
