In 1986, the Labour Court rejected the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union's claim against Murphy Brewery Ireland Limited for compensation for eight workers who lost overtime after a shift change. The Court found no justification for compensation in its recommendation signed on 25 November 1986. The union said the change reduced weekend overtime and sought £3,000 for each worker for a year. Murphy Brewery Ireland Limited said average overtime earnings had not fallen and that the new system paid a higher shift premium. On a separate claim for extra payment to dispenser servicemen installing cleaning filters known as fobs, the Court recommended that the union await the outcome of a consultant's study into the work and a possible new bonus scheme.
