The WRC recommended that an employer pay €50,000 compensation to a worker dismissed without fair procedures after she relocated internationally for a senior role. The recommendation was dated 7 May 2026.
The worker said she raised concerns about her line manager on 23 August 2023 and understood that a meeting two days later would address them. Instead, she said, she was told her employment was ending immediately, without warning, representation or an opportunity to respond. The employer did not attend the hearing or provide evidence.
The WRC accepted her uncontested account and found that no formal probation review or performance management had taken place. It said the employer failed entirely to follow fair procedures and that the manner of the dismissal significantly harmed her professional standing and employability.
The recommendation was for compensation for the manner of dismissal, not remuneration.
