WRC recommends €1,500 for worker dismissed without explanation

The WRC recommended that an employer pay a worker €1,500 after finding she was dismissed without an explanation after about a month in the job. The recommendation was dated 2 March 2026. The worker said there was no contract or probation process and she had not been warned her job was at risk. The employer had gone into liquidation, and the liquidator did not attend the hearing. The adjudicator found there was no probation clause or policy allowing summary dismissal. The worker should have had an opportunity to address any performance issue or respond to another reason for dismissal.
