The WRC recommended that a restaurant pay a bartender €2,500 after finding his dismissal procedurally grossly unfair and his outstanding tips unpaid. The decision was dated 11 July 2025.
The worker said he was dismissed without warning or a chance to answer allegations that were not shared with him. He also said he had not received electronic tips and service charges owed to him. The restaurant did not attend the hearing, and the adjudication officer said the worker’s account was uncontradicted.
The officer said the worker should have had an opportunity to respond to the allegations and found that the restaurant had not paid his outstanding tips. The €2,500 recommendation covered the unfair treatment, including the dismissal and unpaid tips. The officer also recommended a review of employment practices and professional HR support, noting the worker had quickly found another job.
