WRC recommends youth worker and community organisation close bullying dispute

The WRC recommended that a youth worker and a community organisation treat their dispute over a bullying complaint as closed. In a recommendation dated 15 May 2025, Adjudication Officer Catherine Byrne found the organisation had acted reasonably by arranging meetings and mediation, and by deciding against a formal investigation after the conflict stopped. The worker said a colleague had bullied him and that the organisation had failed to investigate his complaint. The organisation said mediation helped resolve the conflict and there was no evidence of bullying. Byrne's role was to assess the employer's handling of the complaint, not to investigate whether the colleague bullied the worker. She found the worker's constructive dismissal claim unsustainable and made no adverse finding about the organisation.
