The WRC recommended a return-to-work plan and further efforts to agree an electronics technician’s job description in a dispute with a public health service. Adjudication Officer Patsy Doyle dated the recommendation on 3 April 2025. The worker’s union said uncertainty over the duties had contributed to an extended absence and sought a safe return and a possible lateral transfer. The employer said the parties had been unable to agree the job description and that staffing restrictions and comparability rules limited redeployment options. The worker returned in November 2024 but still sought a transfer. Doyle recommended that the employer host a Work Positive Programme within six weeks and that both sides redouble efforts to agree a job description within the same period, with progress reviewed three months later. If the worker still sought a comparable role by 3 October 2025, the employer was to act on the redeployment application; if refused, the parties could return to the WRC.
