WRC recommends €520 payment after preschool dismissal

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that a preschool pay a former worker €520, equivalent to one week’s notice, after dismissing her following 11 weeks’ employment. The recommendation was dated 3 April 2025. The worker said she was called to a review meeting without notice and was given little or no reason for her dismissal. The employer said the meeting had been mentioned in her induction forms. The adjudicator said legislation did not require a notice payment in the circumstances, but recommended the payment as a matter of basic respect. The employer was also urged to introduce and follow probation and dismissal policies.
