The WRC recommended that a transport company preserve a retired maintenance worker’s place in any eventual payment arising from a strike settlement and provide regular updates. The recommendation was dated 19 July 2024.
The worker, who served the company for 50 years, said its 2018 calculation gave him €3,021.80, while he put his loss at €6,244.49. The company did not attend the hearing. The officer found merit in keeping the worker eligible for any eventual resolution, citing his participation in the 2017 strike and long service, but did not decide whether the calculation was wrong. A separate €26.46 sick-pay claim was not recommended because it was not on the referral form and the officer could not confirm that local procedures had been exhausted.
