The WRC recommended that a company pay a worker €13,000 after finding poor communication led it to presume she was resigning. The recommendation was dated 31 January 2024.
The worker said she was contacted about payroll during bereavement leave and later faced difficulties after an earlier, hasty resignation request. She returned to work and ultimately refused another job offer, but the company accepted the earlier resignation. The company said it understood she intended to leave and needed a succession plan for payroll.
The officer found the worker had not given formal notice and had returned to work after the earlier communication. The officer said the company’s poor communications caused her considerable difficulties toward the end of ten years’ service.
The officer recommended €13,000 compensation in full and final settlement.
