WRC recommends early retirement exit for long-serving case manager

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that an employer take immediate steps to facilitate an early retirement exit for a worker after finding the employment relationship had irreversibly broken down. The recommendation was dated 28 September 2023. The Grade VII case manager had more than 36 years’ service and said increased workload and the handling of her grievance had damaged her confidence in the employment relationship. The employer disputed mishandling the grievance and said its outcome had partially upheld it. The WRC recommended considering a small number of added pension years if needed and addressing outstanding sick pay sympathetically.
