The Labour Court upheld the decision rejecting geography teacher Mr Keith Cassidy’s claim that his employer penalised him for being a safety representative. Cassidy alleged that management sought to remove him from the role after he promoted the Work Positive programme and conducted a staff survey. The Court found that he had been regarded by ASTI members as their representative, but had not been selected by the school’s employees as a whole, as required by law. It found the claim not well founded and Cassidy’s appeal failed. The determination is dated 28 September 2023.
