WRC recommends €500 to nurse over grievance delay

The WRC recommended that a public health service provider pay a nurse €500 for delays in handling a grievance about a new enhanced nurse contract. The recommendation was dated 13 February 2024. The nurse said a nominal date used to move him onto the new salary scale reduced his pay compared with colleagues, and that his grievance was delayed. The employer said it followed the sectoral agreement and rules for applying the scale. The adjudication officer found the nominal date reasonable, but found the employer breached its grievance procedure by delaying the first meeting and the Stage 1 decision. The officer also recommended the nurse and employer seek a mutually agreed resolution if his circumstances were unique.
