The Labour Court rejected Adrian Gates’s appeal against Carlow County Council, upholding the Adjudication Officer’s decision on 1 July 2025. Gates alleged penalisation under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act in connection with the handling of a bullying complaint and four other workplace matters. The other complaints concerned being accompanied on travel rounds, refusals of travel claims, and not being told the result of a promotion competition. The Council said the travel scrutiny related to claim-detail requirements and the notification failure was an administrative error affecting several people. The Court found Gates had not established penalisation in any of the five matters. No award was recorded.
