The Labour Court awarded Noreen Coveney O' Beirne €2,000 after finding the University Of Limerick denied her equal treatment in access to its pension scheme while she worked on a fixed-term contract. The determination was signed on 17 December 2007.
The Court also found that the University did not breach section 9 because she had not completed three years of continuous fixed-term employment when her contract was renewed in December 2003. Her section 8 complaint was outside the time limit and was not well founded; the merits were not decided. She withdrew the part of her appeal concerning her pension-scheme status after the University confirmed she was covered by its pre-2004 scheme and could buy back pensionable service without interest. She continued to seek compensation for the difficulties she had faced obtaining information about her pension rights.
