The Labour Court upheld a decision rejecting Eman Chennit’s appeal over claims of pregnancy-related discrimination, harassment and victimisation against Vevay Childcare Limited T/A Little People’s Academy. The Court’s decision was dated 10 January 2024.
Chennit worked as a childcare practitioner at the Dublin creche from May 2019 until November 2021. She raised concerns about assignments while pregnant and later complained of a hostile atmosphere and unsafe working conditions. The employer sent a holding response, and the Court noted that no substantive investigation of her grievance appeared to have taken place.
The Court found that Chennit had not established facts showing she was treated less favourably because of pregnancy, or that she was harassed or victimised on the gender ground. It therefore found the appeal unsuccessful and upheld the Adjudication Officer’s decision. The ruling means the complaints were not upheld; it does not make a separate finding on the handling of the grievance.
