The Labour Court found Laois County Council had complied with a Rights Commissioner decision requiring compensatory rest for water and sewerage caretaker Mr Paul Delaney. The Court signed its determination on 4 June 2013 and made no further order. The Rights Commissioner had also required the Council to pay Mr Delaney €5,000 in compensation, which the Council paid. Mr Delaney argued that the revised rest arrangements did not meet the decision. The Labour Court found that his 17.5-hour rest period before Saturday work, followed by three hours’ work and a 24-hour rest, was equivalent in the circumstances.
