Labour Court dismisses union's equal-pay appeal against Irish Times Limited

The Labour Court dismissed the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's appeal over Mr. Noel Rogers's equal-pay claim against Irish Times Limited. The decision was dated 1 July 1998. Mr. Rogers, an analyst programmer, said he did like work with two female commercial system support executives and should receive the same pay. The Court said he was paid the same annual rate as a female colleague doing like work in his department. It also found that pay rates for the different jobs had been set before recruitment and that the differences reflected the jobs and departments, not sex.
