The Labour Court rejected the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's appeal on behalf of about 127 female catering assistants, upholding the Equality Officer's recommendation. The determination was signed on 24 October 1988. The assistants laundered their own uniforms, while British Home Stores (Dublin) Limited had laundered the uniforms of two male catering assistants. The Court found that providing laundered uniforms to the men did not count as remuneration under the Anti-Discrimination (Pay) Act, 1974, and that the women were not entitled to free laundering or reimbursement. The union's separate point under the Employment Equality Act, 1977 did not arise after that finding.
