Labour Court dismisses Mandate appeal over discrimination finding against Duffy Group

The Labour Court dismissed Mandate’s appeal and affirmed the Equality Officer’s finding that Duffy Group Limited, trading as Londis, had not discriminated against a worker. The determination was signed on 7 June 2000.

Mandate argued the worker was assigned more physical work than female staff and was not allowed to use the cash register. Duffy Group said staff of all genders helped with deliveries and the worker had not been trained to use the register. The Court found no less favourable treatment, noting that all staff carried weights, and accepted the company’s business reason for restricting register use.
