Labour Court recommends Waterford Crystal pay workers for earnings losses above 15%

In 1995, the Labour Court recommended that Waterford Crystal Limited pay workers for earnings losses above 15%, after it could not recommend the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union's claim as made. The recommendation was signed on 4 May 1995. The union sought compensation for workers who lost regular overtime. Waterford Crystal argued the claim had to be considered alongside wider changes under its 1993 Cost Improvement Agreement. The Court said that agreement took precedence over earlier understandings and that its specific overtime compensation provision concerned rostered overtime. Under the Court's recommendation, the company would pay a worker the portion of any earnings decrease above 15%; increments and pay rounds would be disregarded in the calculation.
