WRC rejects Roisin Gleeson’s redundancy payment claim

The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Roisin Gleeson’s claim for a statutory redundancy payment from Early Start Education, finding she had resigned and no genuine redundancy had occurred. Adjudication Officer Ewa Sobanska dated the decision 21 July 2026. Gleeson said the preschool’s closure ended her employment and she had not resigned. Early Start Education disputed the claim, saying she had indicated she would leave to attend a UK college course. The adjudicator found that Gleeson had not established that her position was redundant when she chose to end her employment.
