The Workplace Relations Commission found that Vanessa Maria Corral Fernandez’s religion discrimination complaint against Sheridan’s Cheesemongers Limited was not well founded. The decision was dated 14 September 2026.
The complaint followed a food-sampling display where Ms Corral Fernandez took a sample after seeing signs referring to hummus, pesto and olives. Staff told her before she ate it that the sample was pâté. She said she was vegetarian because of spiritual beliefs aligned with Hinduism and argued the signage denied her an informed choice. The company said the signs related to a separate promotion and that pâté containers were beside the tasting area.
The adjudication officer found no evidence that the company knew of her religious beliefs or presented the display differently because of them. The complaint therefore failed on its merits.
