Naas General Hospital ordered to pay €2,500 in disability discrimination case

The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Naas General Hospital to pay Eva Marie McEvoy €2,500 after finding it discriminated against her on disability grounds by failing to assess reasonable accommodation beyond the catering department. The decision, by adjudication officer Bríd Deering, was dated 9 July 2026.

The hospital said catering work was physically demanding and modified duties were not available in that department. The WRC found that between 2 and 24 July 2025 the hospital did not comprehensively assess accommodation options outside catering. It found some other alleged treatment, including requirements for medical certificates and a further report, was not less favourable treatment on disability grounds. McEvoy’s separate victimisation complaint was not well-founded.
