The Workplace Relations Commission awarded James Conway €7,500 after finding Signature Orthopaedic unfairly dismissed him. The decision, dated 26 May 2026, said the employer’s failure to respond to Conway’s grievance crystallised the dismissal.
The case followed a workplace discussion after a machine-procedure failure. Signature Orthopaedic said Conway resigned voluntarily; Conway complained that he had been dismissed. The adjudication officer found neither account of his conditional words amounted to an unequivocal resignation, and that the employer’s later inaction led to the dismissal. The award was reduced because Conway had not adequately mitigated his losses.
