The Workplace Relations Commission found all four complaints brought by Irem Altan Demir against Derry Court Company Limited were not well founded. The decision, dated 7 January 2026, concerned her resignation after the company refused her request for open-ended leave to care for her seriously ill father.
The WRC found that the company’s refusal, coupled with an offer of three weeks’ unpaid leave for an initial period, was not unreasonable. It also found the evidence did not establish race discrimination, and the carer’s leave claims failed because Demir had not applied for the required eligibility decision. No award was recorded.
