The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) awarded Paul Higgins €1,380 after finding Deering Transport Limited breached his right to written notice of a change to his working hours. In a decision dated 18 September 2025, the WRC found his established pattern was night work and the contract specified nights. Higgins said he was told on 8 April 2025 to move to day shifts after about 13 years of night work. The company said the change was intended to last two weeks and relied on a variable-hours clause, but acknowledged it had not given written notice. The adjudicator found the change had a significant effect and caused detriment.
