WRC rejects most complaints by former security officer; daily-rest claim out of time

The Workplace Relations Commission found six complaints by a former security officer against his employer not well founded and ruled it had no jurisdiction over a daily-rest complaint because the alleged breaches were outside the time limit. The decision was dated 30 March 2026. The worker alleged discrimination, inadequate rest, penalisation under working-time, protected-disclosure and safety laws, and a failure to get a reasoned reply to a request for more predictable work. The employer disputed the allegations and said his roster reflected his preferences, but accepted two daily-rest breaches, in April 2022 and January 2024. The WRC found those incidents were more than 12 months before the complaint was filed. The WRC also found the worker had resigned, and that the weekly-rest claim lacked specific supporting evidence. It found he had not established penalisation under working-time or safety law, or under the Protected Disclosures Act, and that his evidence did not establish a breach concerning more predictable work. Three other complaints were withdrawn. The merits of the daily-rest complaint were not decided.
