WRC finds restaurant worker’s redundancy complaint not well founded

The Workplace Relations Commission found Andrew Dollard’s redundancy complaint against Walter Young t/a Young's Restaurant was not well founded, after finding he had received statutory redundancy from the Department of Social Protection. The decision was dated 24 September 2025. Dollard said he had worked at the restaurant for 19 years and disputed the claim that the business could not afford redundancy payments. He confirmed receiving a payment from the Department on 30 April 2025. Young said the restaurant closed after a downturn and that both employees received their statutory redundancy payments through the Department’s social fund.
