The Workplace Relations Commission found Dermot Murphy’s dismissal by Murphy International Limited was fair and rejected his unfair-dismissal complaint. The decision was dated 1 May 2026. The company said Murphy was dismissed for facilitating use of company labour, vehicles, equipment and materials at his son’s private building site, and processing related costs through company accounts. Murphy said he believed the use was permitted and that some transactions would be rectified. The adjudicator found the use was excessive, permission was required and Murphy had assisted with or procured some equipment or materials. She found dismissal proportionate and the investigation and disciplinary process fair. No compensation was awarded.
